OWEN SMITH has been backed from 2/1 (33% chance) to Even money (50%) with William Hill to win the Labour leadership contest – causing favourite Jeremy Corbyn's odds to drift out from 1/2 (66%) to 4/5 (55%).
However, Angela Eagle's prospects appear to have diminished greatly following Smith's decision to take on Jeremy Corbyn, and her odds have been lengthened from as short as 2/1, right out to 14/1 (6%) outsider.
'As soon as Mr Smith entered the contest he attracted strong betting support while Angela Eagle has been virtually ignored in the market' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
TO WIN LAB LEADER CONTEST: 4/5 Corbyn; Evens Smith; 14/1 Eagle
Hills now make Jeremy Corbyn an odds-on chance at 11/10 (47%) still to be Labour leader when the next General Election takes place – but 4/6 NOT to be.
THERESA MAY could be in for the long haul as Tory leader, with William Hill making her 4/9 (69%) still to be in that role on December 31, 2020, and 13/8 not to be.
However, Boris Johnson has been backed to succeed her as the next Tory leader and William Hill have cut his odds from 10/1 to 9/1 favourite.
